State Secretary Murali Appas speaks out.
An illegal electric fence in Marandahalli, Dharmapuri, has claimed the lives of 3 elephants. This heartbreaking incident throws more light on how the majestic brings continue to lose their lives by electrocution or by being hit by trains. This is totally unacceptable.
People resort to laying illegal electric fences to ward off wild animals from destroying their fields. Instead of resorting to means which kill, people can think of alternative ways to protect their crops. Bee hives are a safe and viable option.
As humans begin to slowly encroach on the wildlife habitat, the animals wander in search of food and water. The forest department must gauge the movements of these animals and ensure that they get enough water without mutual threats. After all, nature teaches humans and animals to coexist peacefully!
