I can't find the apt words in any language, to console Chinnadurai and his sister who have been victimised brutally by malice- induced fellow students in Nanguneri. The blood that they shed mirrors the caste fanatism that is deep rooted in the minds of even the younger population, in Tamilnadu.
After recovery, Chinnadurai and his sister must find it in themselves to resurge and walk back into school with their heads held high. They must carve a great future for themselves.
Annal Ambedkar was also subjected to such injustice when he attempted to pursue education. But he fought all the odds and became a globally renowned educationist i hope these children emulate Dr. Ambedkar.
It's now time to walk the paths of Gandhiji, Ambedkar, Periyar , Narayana Guru & many others who fought vigorous wars against casteism and social injustice. The actions taken by the TN government gives us hope that the issue will be addressed.
Students learn a variety of subjects in schools. The primary lesson should be to teach them that all are equal and we must show no discrimination.
The bitter reality tells us that students adorn symbols of their caste, write their caste identity on their vehicles, and students of a caste sit together and mock the other castes. To make matters worse, there's prevalent drug use among students.
To change this condemnable scenario, government, officials, educational institutions, students and parents must come together.
Students must be shown the right path through dialogues with social activists, scholars and artistes. Infact, Social Justice must be made a separate lesson. Mentors should be appointed in schools located in ' sensitive' belts. Strict action must be taken against those who spread divide in social media and other public platforms.
For decades, the minorities have been living with the belief that education would empower them. We must encourage them, support their efforts and completely eliminate social injustice and create a healthy society.
