Since inception, Makkal Needhi Maiam has been consistently reiterating the importance of autonomy for Village administration.
The party has been holding 'model' Grama Sabhas, directly participating in Grama Sabhas, voicing out the importance of Grama Sabhas through powerful entertainment platforms which reach crores of people etc., thus, highlighting local body governance at every opportunity.
Cadres and officials of Makkal Needhi Maiam have been actively participating in Grama Sabhas since 2018.
Such progressive initiatives pave way to strengthen our Democracy and the President of Makkal Needhi Maiam has always been the voice of Democracy.
The 73rd Amendment gave our Panchayats the Constitutional recognition that they truly merit. The day of such a historical recognition (April 24) is being hailed as National Panchayati Raj Day.
Party President Mr. Kamalhaasan has paved way to voice out and reach the remotest corners of the State, to spread the importance of local bodies. On those lines, many of our cadres vowed to fight for the rights of the people, through the people.
On this eventful day, we request the Centre to work towards strengthening the local bodies and allotting sufficient funds to ensure equal rights.
Similarly, we request the State Government to make the minutes of Grama Sabhas transparent by posting them online, thereby ensuring transparency.
The State Government should also follow up on the assurances given during Grama Sabhas, thus promoting accountability. It is also vital to ensure that the allotted funds are utilised properly in order to seamlessly run local bodies and give people their rights as a vibrant Democracy.
- Siva Elango,
State Secratary.
